Mar ao entardecer na costa portuguesa

THE PROJECT · CHAPTER 1

Ocean Mission

Why Zouri exists — and why it still does, eight years on.

22 million

tonnes of plastic reach the ocean every year.

2050

the year when, if nothing changes, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea.

8 bottles

is what every pair of Zouri sandals takes out of the ocean.

The problem

A sea filling up with plastic

Every year, more than 22 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean. It is a number that is hard to picture — and harder still to accept for those who live by the coast.

Our answer

If the plastic is already there, someone has to go and get it

That is why Zouri was born, in 2018. We collect plastic from the Portuguese coast and turn it into vegan footwear, alongside natural and sustainable materials.

One pair at a time

We do not believe a shoe brand can solve ocean pollution on its own. We believe that every pair made with collected plastic is plastic that is no longer in the water — and that a buying decision can also be a stand.

Our dream is simple: an ocean without plastic.
